$30,000 distributed to post-secondary students pursuing degrees in specialty imaging.
SGIA has announced the 2018 recipients of its annual scholarship for students attending post-secondary education programs at an active SGIA Educational Institution member school. Fifteen students from eight colleges and universities were selected to receive the $2000 scholarships from more than 200 applicants – six times the number of applicants in 2017. SGIA committee members evaluated applicants based on “their academic achievement, demonstrated commitment to a career in graphic communications, printing technology or printing management, extracurricular activities, financial need, a one-page essay, and academic and professional recommendations,” according to a release.
Scholarship recipients include students from California Polytechnic State University, California University of Pennsylvania, Clemson University, College of the Ozarks, Illinois State University, North Carolina State University, Ryerson University, and University of Wisconsin – Stout. SGIA awarded more than $30,000 in scholarships to the students who are studying graphic communications, graphics and multimedia technology, graphic art, fiber and polymer science, cross-media graphics management, or graphic communication management. “We had such a large field of students to choose from and the applications were so strong! The industry has a lot to look forward to with these students coming into the workforce,” says Erin Nuss, SGIA manager of academic and training programs.
