SGIA (www.sgia.org) has conducted a survey of 99 garment decoration businesses, revealing an increase in business-to-business customer base (62 percent) and reliance on multiple technologies (70 percent). The median number of employees at participating companies is six; the median annual revenue is $782,069. Eighty-eight percent of these companies utilize screen printing for garment decoration, three-fourths use embroidery, and 60 percent use digital printing.

Nearly 56 percent of companies said they had purchased production equipment in 2014. For screen printers, screen-making tools and drying equipment were most commonly purchased; direct-to-garment inkjet and embroidery equipment were the most popular digital technologies. Companies reported DTG inkjet and automatic screen presses as the most planned purchases for 2015. Participants also saw performance apparel as the product area with the most growth.

Median sales growth was over 19 percent.
